Planning ahead here what did you do for dc 1st birthday. We won't be having a big party but want to do something maybe with family. Tia

My husband took the day off work and we had a picnic in the local park and marvelled that we had made it through the first year Grin

We don't have any family in this country or we probably would have had a bbq or little get together. It's a good excuse to have a meet up.

Long time ago now, but we just had close family and our closest friends round for a little tea party and a birthday cake. Your baby won't be bothered either way so just commemorate it how you want to. Fortunately mine were summer babies (and it was warm!) so having people round in the garden/paddling pool out/blankets on the lawn with some toys for the little ones worked well.

Was a heatwave so we went to the park and played in the pool

Winter baby so went to the aquarium and had lunch out just ds, me and dh. Could not have managed a family do.

I always think first birthdays are really for the parents. We did small events at home with a few friends and bil was probably there for babies 2 and 3 as he was the only family member nearby. All I really remember is having champagne and amazing cakes from chokkywokkydoodaa 😊 and the birthday child playing mainly with the wrapping paper.

We went out for afternoon tea. DC squashed some extremely posh sandwiches into crumbs. I stuffed myself with cake.

On her actual birthday DH took the day off work and we went to the zoo. That weekend we had close family round for tea and presents.

FairfaxAikman · 23/04/2019 07:48

We are having a few of DSs friends to soft play (not a party just playing as normal) followed by food at ours on the weekend after.
On the day DS, DH and I are going to the aquarium.
And then a couple of weeks later we are going to a local country park with my sister and her DCs as she lives abroad and can't make it till then.

Our dd's is in July and we are planning to take her to a farm on the day just the 3 of us and then have a little party on the garden for close family on the weekend, either party food or a bbq depending on the weather

Grandparents and my sister and her dc round for birthday tea, the nearest weekend.
