Quality soft toys

Does anyone know where to find really good quality soft toys? I still have my first soft toy (from the 70s and made from sheepskin) and would love to get my one year old something that will last as long as mine. Something that can cope with being loved and slept with and carried around, not an heirloom type of thing.

I can find teddy bears that fit the bill but not any other types of toy. I really really don't like teddy bears (find them a bit creepy for some reason) so am looking for something a bit different.

I really like some of the bigger Jellycat plush toys but am not sure how well they cope with lots of wear and tear?
Would also prefer to buy from a smaller business, possibly a British craft toy maker if any of these still exist?!

Here's a sheepskin bear...made in UK by a smaller company.

I don't think it looks that well crafted...but it is very fluffy.

Oooh thanks HennyPenny!
I hadn't thought of Steiff. I think I assumed they only did bears. There are loads to look through in that link.
