Newborn Poo

Looking for a little bit of reassurance- my 4 week old hasn't pooped in over 24 hours.

She's exclusively breast fed. She's is feeding and sleeping fine - maybe a bit windy/some signs of distress post feed but she's a bit reflux-y anyway. Slightly more vomit than usual. Lots of wet nappies.

Should I worry?

All babies are different. My friend’s baby used to only poo once a week whereas my DD used to poo 2-6 times a day!

It’s perfectly normal. As long as her nappies are wet and she doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort then she’ll be fine.

If she stops having regular wet nappies or starts being in pain then get some medical advice.

Totally normal for a BF baby. I have a 5week old BF baby and recently went from poos everyday to once every few days. Double checked with health visitor and confirmed this is normal. So long as the baby poo doesn't start changing appearance e.g. looking like rabbit droppings (sign of constipation) then nothing to worry about

Almost certainly normal once you're out of the first few weeks. My first went like clockwork every three days, to the extent that I could safely leave the house without a spare nappy and wipes on non-poo days. Exclusively breastfed babies can go as long as ten days between poos and be perfectly healthy.

Ok thanks everyone! She's in a horrible mood tonight but I think that's the heat!

Good to know that this poo thing is normal and I can now worry about other things!

As it's been said above totally normal. At 4 weeks my baby went 5 days I was so so worried then he just did a normal one on day 6! When we had him weighed he had had a huge growth spurt... I think he was just taking everything in.

Make sure there are regular wet nappies, and when your baby does go that it isn't like rabbit droppings.

I have just been on the receiving end of an epic poo! EPIC. DD seems very pleased with herself!
