Baby hates baby rice

What else can I give other than baby rice? I’ve tried mixing it with fruit but he still hates it.

I give veg puree during that day so want a more “breakfast-y” item for his breakfast.

I was going to try weetabix but a bit apprehensive because of salt content etc.

Tried BLW but he puts it all on the floor. Which is quite annoying as he puts everything else in his mouth!

Thank you!

Baby porridge? Baby weetabix? To be fair baby rice is like wallpaper paste.

Normal porridge? Can mix some puréed fruit or cinnamon into it if you want to give it more flavour.

Just give him whatever you’re having

Ready brek is much nicer than baby rice. You can put some apple puree or squashed banana in it too if you like

Embracethechaos · 10/04/2019 08:31

Try readybrek. It doesn't have added salt anymore. I get the unbranded asda stuff, ready oats and it's only 0.03 percent salt.

HogMother · 10/04/2019 08:31

I would eat baby rice either.
Depends what else they’re eating when you look at sugar content.

Bluerussian · 10/04/2019 08:31

If he doesn't like don't give it to him. There are plenty of other things babies can eat, not fair to force stuff onto them.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 10/04/2019 08:33

How old is he?

I gave DS ready brek from 6 months. You can flavour it with fruit puree (apple, pear, berry compote), defrosted raspberries, mashed banana, etc. Lots of options :)

Normandy144 · 10/04/2019 08:34

How old is your baby? If he's still young then it's quite normal for thek to throw the food about so don't worry about that. Food before 1 is just for fun. He's getting the majority of his calories from milk. Try him with scrambled egg or omelette. Soft fruits or toast fingers.

Babdoc · 10/04/2019 08:35

I think your baby has excellent taste - I echo a PP who said baby rice is like wallpaper paste!
Mine always loved home made mixed vegetable purée with a little grated cheese melted into it. Fruit purée and yogurt was popular too. And you can easily give a mashed up version of your own meal, provided it doesn’t have excess salt in it. Minced beef with mashed potato usually finds favour.

WinterHeatWave · 10/04/2019 08:38

Yoghurt?
And I'd keep offering fingers of toast/ crumpets etc.
Ready break. Porridge if he can take some texture.

Bin the baby rice!

TeddyIsaHe · 10/04/2019 08:38

Just give whatever you’re having. Toast, scrambled egg, omelette, Greek yogurt, french toast, actual porridge etc. Babies don’t need weird baby food, they can eat real stuff! Just watch out for salt, honey and choking hazards.

Wallsbangers · 10/04/2019 09:16

Yeah I don't blame your baby, it's revolting.

Normal porridge? Cereal? Toast? Fruit? Yoghurt? If you're giving finger food or doing BLW it does take a while for them to get the hang of it, it's a brand new skill.

chargedproton · 10/04/2019 13:53

Well I gave him toast today for lunch and he ate by himself!

What i did different is that I gave it him before his bottle so he’s hungry and he still finished all his bottle afterwards. Whereas before I used to give it an hour after his bottle and I’m assuming he wasn’t hungry and wasn’t interested.

I’ll try ready brek.

Your baby has good taste, have you tried it? It’s like eating paper.

Just give them whatever you’re having, BLW really is the best way. Food is mostly for fun until they’re one anyway.

countrymousesussex · 10/04/2019 20:20

I must be really weird because I actually like baby rice myself - I do mix it with veg purées though (early weaning on paed advice due to reflux) and my equally strange baby loves it too 🙈🙈🙈

Baby pasta tubs from Heinz are so filling and tasty! We gave our baby mostly food we ate but before bed he had the baby pasta as it was easy to make and eat and helped him stay full all night :)
