Banging feet in the night and head side to side

I have a 5 month old son and more recently over the past few weeks he has been moving around a lot in the night, he never actual wakes but bangs his feet around in his sleep sack and shakes his head side to side, does anyone know if this is a phase? The only way I can calm him before he wakes from flailing is picking him up and cradling and putting in bed next to me, he then happily sleeps for another few hours. I don’t want to get into a habit of him sleeping in our bed but when I rock him and try and place him back into his crib he just start banging his feet as soon as I put him down, any suggestions would be great if any :)

It's actually a weird self soothing thing that lots of babies do! He's not hurting himself and if he's still asleep then leave him to it. He will let you know if/when he needs you.

Thanks @haz1516, I will try tonight to leave him, I think I just worry he will wake up and start crying so I had been picking him up sooner rather than later even tho he’s still asleep, I will try tonite tho and see if he stops and goes back to sleep :)

It's definitely a weird phase. My Dd would wake herself up though if I'd tried to leave her. It was such a pain

Aw, I miss the leg slamming in a weird way. Both a phase :)

I still do this apparently and I'm all grown up and fine Grin

Definitely a shade my DS is now 6 months and has just stopped doing the leg bangs and just moves around all over the place. He still shakes his head though but i think he does it to settle himself back to a deep sleep. We just leave him unless he wakes up fully

That's should have said definitely a phase

Yes I remember listening to my son at the same kind of age as he raised his legs and slammed them down again and again. He’s 8 and he doesn’t do it now Grin

My 6 month old does the leg slamming thing and has been for nearly 3 months now Confused He does it so hard it makes our bed shake (his crib is attached to ours) and we can hear it all over the house. If we leave him to it, he ends up waking himself up. Glad to hear it’s a phase, I just hope it bloody ends soon!
