Hope this is the right place to post this...I would like to get my 8 year old a phone that she can use to text and call only (no internet!) and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? TIA

Why not get a cheap Android and disable Wifi? Then they can have the touchscreen experience with a few offline games you choose while having texts and calling
