Any advice on helping son struggling with schoolwork.

It's my first post on here so here goes, my son has just turned 8 and has been struggling with his schoolwork for a while now and is very behind his peers, they are all reading horrid Henry and things like that and he is still on the biff chip and kipper books. He is also struggling with his writing and spellings, he is under the speech and language therapist and occupational therapist and is waiting on appointment from the paediatrician. He does have some 1-1 support from school but it's not all the time due to funding, I was just wondering if anyone else has been through anything similar with their child and can suggest any ways to help please? Also if you know of any apps, websites or anything they can go to after school maybe? Thanks. Smile

Have the school mentioned him being Dyslexic?

My DD has just turned 9, she has a good reading age but in the past year we've realised her writting and spelling is not really progressing.

The school she is at said we would have to pay privately for a test and while we look into that we have started using a site called Nessie which she loves, there is a subscription but it's not much.

It's mainly based around online word and memory games and she sees it as a fun thing to do rather than additional work, I would say it's worth looking into and gettign your son to do the trial test which shows indicators for dyslexia.

The best people to ask are his teacher and the SENCO. Make sure you still do story time at bedtime and you can reward him the same books as his peers.
