Hi,

My DD is usually the one at the toddler groups dancing and doing the actions but over the last few weeks has been hiding behind me and even if we go for lunch she hides behind me and hides from everyone. (Even if they’re not looking at her or sitting with us)

Her speech is coming alone nicely and not any other problems. When we’re walking around shops she wants me to carry her and won’t go in pram/ trolly and when we go to pay will put her hand over her face to hide from the checkout assistant.

What is going on?!

Also to add at things like soft play she doesn’t want to play, will do until another child comes too close and then crys. (As in a few steps away close)

It's probably just a phase she's going through. As they get older they become more aware of other people, she's maybe just suddenly noticed everyone!

Don't give it any attention, just carry on as normal and she'll hopefully grow out of it soon.

I hope so!!

I'd say normal. There's a lot going on at that age, she's probably starting to process that others aren't part of the family unit, and not sure how to work out if they're 'safe' or not.

DD has a similar phase at a similar age, went from everyone's best friend to a clingy shy thing, and will still occasionally hide behind my leg if a stranger talks to her in an unfamiliar place (she's 2 and a half now), but she usually warms to people after a little while.
