House in divorce

Hi, my husband has told me he’s leaving. We’ve been together 18 years and have children 17,16,12 & 9.
I stay at home and run a small self employed business which I can’t run when he leaves. He is the main breadwinner and pays the mortgage and household bills. I pay for children’s things and food shopping and any school trips etc.
So any idea what happens when he leaves us?

I am so sorry about your situation and have no advice other than get yourself to citizen advice.

You may be able to apply for benefits. You may also have to start looking for a job. Who will be paying the mortgage once he leaves?

Are you both on the mortgage?

If you can't afford the mortgage when he leaves (is he definitely moving out?) Then you may need to sell, take each of your equity and buy somewhere else.

You may be able to stay until youngest is 18, but not sure whether he can be forced to continue paying all the mortgage etc

My brother got divorced - 2 children - one child his, the other not, but as they were married he’s also responsible for her. House sold and ex got 70% of value and bro pays monthly maintenance for his Ds also.

If you wish I believe you are entitled to live in the family home until your youngest child turns 18.

ScarletBitch · 24/03/2019 20:48

He still has to pay Child Maintenance for all your Children, and pay towards the house as your DC are living in it.

Go on Entitled to and see what help is available. I know everything seems horrendous atm, but you will get through it, and we are all here to help. Thanks
