Toddler emotions - sad and angry

My 2 1/2 year will be playing quite happily with me or by herself at home then will suddenly pull a face and say "I will get angry" or "I'm sad". She also sometimes repeats things that I think other children at nursery have said to her e.g. "that's not your toy, that's a big girls toy!"
I give her reassurance and ask her what's made her sad, or say do you want to tell Mummy about it. She then gets a bit sniffly, wants a cuddle, then a minute later she's back to being fine again.

She's empathic and recognises others emotions and facial expressions well. She's generally quite happy.

Is this normal? Thanks.

My little girl went through a phase similar to this - testing out emotions she has learnt the words for and pretending to be angry or sad for a minute. There was nothing actually wrong with her. I think it's a way of practicing/playing with what she's beginning to understand, like role play but for feelings.
