Birthday ideas to avoid an Xbox!!!

Hi all I need some ideas please!

My son turns 4 in May and is asking for an Xbox for his birthday - I don’t think he actually wants an “Xbox” what it’s all about is his complete obsession with music! He loves it and recently found the justdance videos on his cousins Xbox and then YouTube and now he can combine music AND dancing - its his kind of heaven 😉

He will happily sit and listen/dance to music all day if I let him and he’s been like it since he was born! He’s got no interest in instruments or making the music though Hmm

I DO NOT want him having an Xbox at 4 (personal choice) because I feel it’s just another hook to the tv.

So does anyone have any ideas for alternatives - I’m stumped 🤔

He just doesn’t want to know about anything else Confused

Thanks in advance

Karaoke machine?
iPod- though it’s a screen I guess. Good for music though.
Alexa. And a subscription to Spotify.
Dance lessons.

An Alexa? One of the ones with a screen so he can watch the videos maybe?
Or I know you said he had no interest in making music but a keyboard with sound effects?
Can you still get dance mats? We had a simple one that plugged straight into the tv-no console needed

It's a bit hard to recommend an alternative to a video game, that isn't a video game, especially when it's a very specific and unique game like Just dance.

Why not get a second hand Wii and only buy "just dance" so you get him specifically what he wants and he can't use it for all of the other video nasties Xbox etc can be used for.

A 2nd hand console will also be very cheap in comparison and therefore mean mean you won't be buying functionality u won't be using.

a second hand wii and just dance sounds amazing

That's what we did when the dcs were little and they loved it.

Wii fit with the board is also hilarious when you are little

If you wanted to totally avoid screens, how about one of those dance mat things where they jump on bits of it and it lights up? Might seem boring if it's an X Box he's after though? I like the karaoke idea, or how about a keyboard with a microphone to sing into. I think some of them play songs you can bash along to and sing?

Someone just got one of my DC a handheld disco light and he loves that!

Thank you! All brilliant ideas Smile which I’m off to look at now!!!

It’s not the idea of a console as such, I just feel the Xbox is too “grown up” I guess and I don’t want him to be able to access other things on it as we have a smart tv.

I think I’m a bit boring and avoid technology as much as I can 🙈 and don’t want him becoming hooked on screentime so want to find that middle ground 😉
