When do babies ‘get’ solids?

Posting in here for traffic, as didn’t much response in weaning.

Some days DD2 is 7.5 months, weaning since 6 months. She will refuse the spoon along with any finger foods some days, then other days she will take a little bit here & there either from a spoon or something she’s feeding herself.
Overall she’s not eating much at all. I always offer something at every meal. Whether it’s something I’ve mashed up or finger foods.
I’m just wondering when she might start eating properly?
She’s having 36oz (ish) formula a day still, do you think she’s not eating much because she has so much milk? Or she just hasn’t got the hang of it all yat?

I think that's normal OP. My DS was slow to get into weaning and really only began to eat properly around 8-9 months. I even went to the HV about it but she said to continue to offer food and be patient. She also strongly recommended baby led weaning so I bought a BLW cookbook and that helped a lot. My DS really enjoyed simple things like steamed carrots or asparagus or broccoli, weetabix, mac and cheese, etc. Oh and toad in the hole was and still is a firm favourite.

Depends on the baby. Some get it straight away (DS1, for example. He hasn't stopped eat g since!), and other take much longer.
Have you heard the saying " food before 1 is mainly for fun"? Keep going. Chances are she will get it in the next few months.

My DS is 15 months and still doesn't always 'get' solids.we found that letting him play with food was the best thing rather than trying to spoon it.

Are there any foods she seems to enjoy more than others? DS loves yogurts so feeding him them really helped. And bananas.

Just let babe feed themselves and explore food. Better than spoon feeding if your doing baby led weaning babe shares meals with family. My son's been eating from 6 months and he was premmie

Thanks all, I shall keep going & offering. I like to do as much finger food as possible, I try not to feed her if I can. Things like ready break, yoghurt (yoghurt which she loves) I always spoon feed though. Yes I have the BLW book used it a lot with DD1.
I seem to remember DD1 ‘got’ the whole weaning thing quite quickly but I guess every baby is different.
