Hi, I dont know who else to turn to ladies. I have a daughter who has recently moved out of the family home with her little one (3). She has moved into a dilapidated, unfurnished, undecorated Council flat and is doing the best she possibly can for her little one. Health Visitor has made a visit today and raised concerns about health and safety etc telling her she needs more boxes and storage for her stuff and told her to wash clothing and put it in boxes - how is that going to do any good when she knows she hasnt got a dryer and is putting it all on radiators!! She cannot put wet washing into boxes/storage. She said she is going to get other people involved and re-visit the property next week. My daughter is going into hospital for an op on Friday and the HV has told her to get things done before she goes in. She is now in an awful state thinking she is a bad mum (she's not) and crying continuously because she doesnt have the money to buy a dryer / more storage. I am helping all I can but there are limits. How can I help more?

Do you have a washer or tumbler? Could you do a few loads for her?

Not sure the practicalities of helping but if having a HV round stresses her out, it's not compulsory, she doesn't have to have them around at all. If you think she's doing the best she can and you are helping her, that's all that matters.

Is there a launderette nearby where she could dry it?

I have a washer but my tumble dryer has just broken.

No, there are absolutely no launderettes in our area.

What about a heated clothes arier if you can afford to help her with one of those? You can get them for around £40 and they make drying so much quicker. I don’t think they cost a lot to run either.

Does it have to be boxes for clothes? What about a cheap clothes rail to hang them on? If they are spaced out in it they can even be hung to dry on it maybe
