Suspected food allergy

Hi,

I’ve given my LO banana today (mixed into his porridge) and he developed a rash and then vomited it back up about an hour later

He’s has porridge regularly so I dont think it was that and it was about the third time he’s had banana

So I suspect he might have an allergy to banana

I’m going to take him to the GP to be on the safe side, but I was wondering if I should try banana again tomorrow to see if it happens again or if it was a one off?

Definitely take him to GP although my experience with GPs and allergies isn't great.
However, I would wait a couple of weeks before trying again. Give him time to recover and also some reactions take longer to develop e.g. some eczema is caused by food allergy (not saying this will happen but it's a reason for waiting)

Glad babe is fine sometimes my son has reactions to food slight rahses when teething if there it hard or soft. His only know allergy is 🥝 and for that he has watery poos and is very gassy and red face. We tied him 3 times to be sure. Doctors usually just say the same as I allgerys happen is there and immediate allergy I. Your family to bananas

What milk was in the porridge?

Willow4987 · 11/03/2019 21:09

There’s a lot of known allergies in our family so I’m hyper vigilant to them but no known banana allergies so this was a bit left field

It was full fat cows milk in the porridge - which he’s been having in his porridge for weeks with no reaction and he’s also been on formula since he was 8 weeks with no reaction

If they are allergic to banana (or kiwi actually) there's a very high chance they'll also be allergic to latex. One to watch out for.

See the GP. Usually they can do a blood test to confirm an allergy. Or refer you to the hospital to have one done. Photos of the rash are helpful for diagnosis.

I know that one myself allergies are funny I am allergic to oranges and latex, my son is only allergic to kiwis but loves bananas. I would discuss introduce certian foods into your little ones diet with a medical professional if there is alot of kiwi allergy I. The family incase you need something for little one best of luck. Hope little ones feeling better 😙.
