Tugamommy
I had severe pnd. I put my ds on his tummy as he slept. He didn't sleep at all on his front.
I can uderstand you're shocked but I'm sure all of us 'rebellers' had similar good reasons.

Lucylou21 · 10/07/2007 17:18

Gave up getting Dd weighed after a couple of months. I was a small baby, Dp was a small baby and Dd is a small baby.
Feed Dd from jars when I can't be bothered cooking (which is all the time at the moment thanks to my morning sickness) I also gave up on organic food as she preferred the other stuff.
I don't bother with baths everyday, far too much hassle! When she was really little we left it for ages sometimes as we were scared of bathing her in case we dropped her or something.

McDreamy · 10/07/2007 17:23

DD also slept on her front - wouldn't sleep any other way! I really gave myself a hard time about it.

We looked into "what we were doing to oour child" in some detail and found out that there has never been a study looking at sleeping position alone, it has always been in association with something else (smoking, feeding, temp etc).

Made me feel slightly better, but not much. We continued because we carried out every other recommendation going (in relation to SIDS).

Used to heat up DC's milk in the microwave.

DC's had bottles beyond a year.

If food is dropped on the floor we have the 5 second rule in our house

Dd is 20 months and still has bottles.... Is that a big no?

Sorry to hear about your PND muppetgirl. I'm still a bit shocked about your 'rebelness' but not as much!

lucyellensmum · 10/07/2007 17:53

DD is nearly 2, she still has three bottles of milk a day

LaCerbiatta · 10/07/2007 18:06

Oh good! Always hated that theory that babies should go straight from breast to cup and never touch a bottle! Isn't suckling conforting and partof being a baby?

Cammelia · 10/07/2007 18:46

dragonstitcher, we had a stairgate that was held on by pressure things

Funny thing routine, I didn't get one from any baby books but I have always had pretty strong routines for both my girls, even now with the 10 year old. She is far happier with a strict bedtime

inamuckingfuddle · 10/07/2007 19:11

used a microwave to heat bottles
bought a monitor, used it for about a week and realised it was a waste of space
did have stairgates (twin toddlers harder to keep track of!)
'sterilised' stuff in dishwasher
they get to eat crisps, cak eand biscuits sometimes
baths 3-4 times a week tops, hair wash once a week usually
frequently go out without hair even being brushed

mummypigoink · 10/07/2007 19:18

I looooove this thread.

I'd tell you all what I did wrong, but it'd take me too long to type.

LoveAngel · 10/07/2007 19:24

Urrrr...my son is 29 mths and still has 2 bottles of milk a day. I couldn't give a stuff what anyone has to say about that :-)

Naartjie · 10/07/2007 19:59

Stairgates.

Also, bathing every day. I did this until he was about 6 months, and then couldn't be bothered! I do it every 2 days now.

And I only ever sterilized bottles, nothing else.

Boysboysboys · 10/07/2007 20:13

DS1 - nothing really
DS2 - sterilising, stair gates, junk food, daily bathing (although I think you are not meant to do this now anyway!), clean clothes, age appropriate toys, crawling commando style on the grass, eating the grass, eating the earth... I think i should stop now!

Alexandersmummy · 10/07/2007 20:17

Ohh I'm so happy I am normal!!
I don't bath my ds daily (twice a week if lucky!)
Stopped sterilising bottles at about 5 months, never did spoons etc
Have no stair gates (he doesn't play in the hall and I freak at the thought of a fire in the night and falling over bloody stairgates trying to get out!!)
I let him play in dirt and eat it if he wants, never ever been ill
I give him food that he's dropped on floor!
If his clothes look ok he wears them again, and I never use non bio
If he falls down I tell him to jump back up and that it didn't hurt! (unless of course it did)
He watches cbeebies
No cupboard locks I just say NO to him!
Oh joy at been normal!

yellowpoo · 10/07/2007 20:56

My DS also licks the snot, but is very happy and doesn't have a sore patch. He also shares his food with the dog when i am not looking, and ate a snail last week, they are soo quick, nothing like a healthy snack.

Oh, i turn up at clicky groups and stand there just to see if i will be ostracised or spoken to, are they friendly or stuck in their ways and narrow minded? When DS was newborn, i moved to a new area, i went along to a playgroup on the advice of my health visitor, and spoke to several people, then sat for one and a half hours on my own. How to give yourself PND, I can;t be that much of a social pariah.

Flum · 10/07/2007 21:04

God I always talk to people on their own at mother and tot groups - hence I have a ridiculous number of friends and am busy having coffee with them so much that I never have time to bath my kids.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 10/07/2007 21:11

when people are saying dont clean babies teeth what age are the babies?

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 10/07/2007 21:14

and those who dont daily bathe thier children, do they not daily bathe themselves?? I have bath every night with dd and we love time together so its not a chore.

Flum · 10/07/2007 21:16

yeAH BUT no fun bathing with babes older than 1 as they pinch yer nips and pull your fairy garden fluff - most annoying and not relaxing at all.

Heated · 10/07/2007 21:17

Baby car seat in the back of car, the front seats are for adults.

No to baby monitors

Dropped food is still edible and btw I loathe those adverts that say you wouldn't let your children eat off the street/there's more bacteria on your chopping board than a toilet seat...

No to prams once they're 2+, how else are they going to get good at walking?

mezzer · 10/07/2007 21:19

Why are you not supposed to have bottles after a year?? DD (18mo) still has a bottle a day. Never occurred to me to try to take it off her...

Oh, also eats off the floor, have no locks on cupboards, wires (but not live ones!)and cables within reach, etc etc. I'm not afraid to tell her no and she does understand what I'm on about.

LoveAngel · 10/07/2007 21:21

Why does my lovely little boy need a bath everyday? I wash his hands and face loads during the day as he is such a snotty, mucky little pup. His nappy area is cleaned everytime his nappy is changed. He is CLEAN. Why do I need to wash his whole body everyday? Don't understand the obsession with scrubbing and sanitising small children! Oh, and I also let him eat food he has dropped on the kitchen floor.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 10/07/2007 21:29

Must be me then but I think a bath helps them wind down at night, its nit about cleaning for me but could not just do two a week, she would be really grubby!

And teeth.I think yu should look after them and introduce this early so kids know too.

TinyGang · 10/07/2007 21:30

Bathing a baby every day is ok. Bathing three older children every day who still need lots of help is exhausting. I don't do mine every night any more.

Other thing would be homework for infant school and getting het up about doing it. Not.

Mirage · 10/07/2007 21:31

Didn't warm their bottles, the stairgates spent more of their time in the shed than on the stairs.Didn't use safety catches on cupboards, didn't take them to be weighed or for check ups once they were past 7 months.Did feed them home made curry from 5 months, let them eat food that they have dropped on the floor.

I let dd1 sleep on her tummy for naps,as she screamed the house down if put on her back,I didn't use a buggy much after 20 months-by that time she could walk 3/4 of a mile to the next village & then the same distance back again, with me.DD1's record for keeping her clothes clean is 4 days so far, sadly dd2 gets through 3 changes a day sometimes.

Roobie · 10/07/2007 21:33

Thought I was some kind of freak about the baby swimming thing. People tend to look aghast when I say that 2yo ds has never been in a swimming pool. Also never took dd - she started swimming lessons on her own from scratch at age 4.6 having never even been in a pool before!
