Locks on cupboards! never have had them, and ds knows the importance of being careful around cleaning products. And yes i do let ds 4.8 use some of cleanig products!! he has to learn how to clean

niceglasses · 09/07/2007 10:25

Didn't/don't do/didn't bother about:

Routines as babies
Bathing everyday (more like once a week if lucky)
Mucky clothes/face
Fairly relaxed re diet
Watch telly, but somehow regulated
Playing outside unsupervised (prob allow my nearly 7 yr old out too young by standards on here)
Avoiding kids with common illnesses (why bother??)

oo lots more prob.

Thats not to say I don't periodically worry I am a slack alice.

We'v ehad more 'mishaps' in houses with stairgates- bloody things to trip over and break yer neck!

Surfermum · 09/07/2007 10:26

Didn't do Tumble Tots and the idea of one of those singalongamummy groups was my idea of hell. Friends were and thought I would delay dd's development.

We're not doing swimming lessons either, I took one look and thought "I can do that myself".

We found ds in daddy's office at 5am having opened the stairgate (quite proudly showed me how when asked) walked down 2 flights of stairs in the dark, turned daddy's computer on and was fiddling with the buttons when we found him...

He's moved his chest of drawers to other places in his room to climb on the shelves as he wanted someting off them.

He's been found in the living room having gone into the kitchen, moved a chair to the counter and got the salt mill, taken it upstairs and salted the sofa.

We need to live in a house with nothing in it, oh no, he's be on the window sills then.

Baby monitor - got one and then never switched it on, think it would have resulted in even greater paranoia when ds was a baby and anyway, unless you live if a ridiculously large house, who on earth can't hear a baby crying anyway?

codJane · 09/07/2007 10:30

i think the SHOES thing is a protocol we need to smash tbh
apprently in frnace they dont haev al this fussing aboru shoes

oh and gave up on mother and baby groups -some of those women are just plain strange

BBBee · 09/07/2007 10:33

agree with the shos thing. Had an epiphany when took ds to be measured 11.5F and then had to go back the next day as none he liked - measured again (same assistant) 11H. Kept my £40!

chevre · 09/07/2007 10:34

Sterilizing once weaned or once sucking the handlebar on the Tesco trolley. I mean what's the point in sterilizing anything if their system can cope with that?

Never bothered with baths every day.
Baby swimming lessons.
Facepainting.

NoBiggy · 09/07/2007 10:39

I can't, think it's just the shape and age of the house. Also, if I'm in the kitchen I have the radio on, so really no chance of hearing.

My mum's modern house, otoh, you can be in a bedroom and make out conversations downstairs. Progress.

snowleopard · 09/07/2007 10:39

Constantly banging on about "sharing"

OK we do teach DS to share sometimes, and that it is nice to offer someone a biscuit etc. But I don't understand this idea that children should always be forced to share their toys. IMO if you are having a go with something you should be left to enjoy it, as long as you got there first and didn't snatch it.

What bugs me about it is it's not as if this obsession reflects adult life. I'm not forced to share my nice new top, my dinner or my car with anyone and I'd be blardy annoyed if I was.

EnidJane · 09/07/2007 10:40

agree about shoes

dd3s first shoes are wellingtons from woolies

EnidJane · 09/07/2007 10:40

Join the NCT ante-natal classes

Baby-proofing

Following a routine (she fell into her own)

Weaned at 5 months rather than 6

She is just 1 (today!) and I have no plans to give up her night-time bottle; she takes more milk and loves drinking from it.

Not giving her a nap after 3pm - she sleeps whenever she wants and still always goes down at 7pm.
