How much does your 5-6 week old sleep in the day? My boy is fantastic at night going 4 hours between feeds but in the day he's awake from 8am till at least 3/4pm but whilst he can be content for 10 minutes or so on his own, a lot of the time he's grouchy or wants to be held. It's so tiring and I feel rubbish for not having done anything but literally tend to him and seeing the house a mess, not being able to have more than a 30 second body wash shower and often not eating until dinner is draining me physically and emotionally. This isn't a plea for help as I'm determined to find a better way of coping but is this sleep pattern typical of healthy?

I think sometimes they forget they are meant to asleep! My one struggled to be awake for more than 20-30 minutes so had the opposite problem. Does he not want to nap at all?

I used to get a shower at night so I could have more of a relax before bed then I'd only have to wash my face and clean my teeth in the morning. I'd often make some lunch in advance and leave it in the fridge so i could always grab something in a hurry. Are you using a sling? That helped us during unsettled periods.

Awake time at that age should be around 45 minutes to an hour. Have you tried rocking him to sleep or taking him for a walk to get him to nap?
