Help please! Has anyone found any helpful 'blockers' for cheek biters? My 7-year-old wd benefit from something else to focus on rather than biting her cheek. She says she wants to stop but if she is bored eg waiting eg before falling asleep at night, or at school during register/assembly, worried or fed up eg with friends falling out at playtime etc instead of daydreaming or whatever, few months ago she started biting inside of her cheek and lip, resulting in increasingly big painful sores that look like mouth ulcers.
CBT book on overcoming nail-biting & shirt chewing suggested stuff like biting dry spaghetti (fine if at home), twiddle toy in pocket (fine until novelty of it wears off eg after day or two), 'cleaning teeth with tongue' or counting teeth with tongue (sounds good to keep teeth away from cheek but seems to be too hard for her to to focus effort on).
Have spoken to GP but they haven't got any suggestions... Nothing specific seems to be bothering her but still the biting continues.
Anyone had any luck with something that prevents teeth connecting to cheek, to block the biting, to get a child in the habit of not doing it?
