Breast pump help

Hi!

I'm looking at buying a breast pump (currently pregnant) as I plan on pumping so my OT can feed too.

I could do with some help about what I should be looking for - brands, double or single etc?

After some research I thought I'd go for a Medela but then I've also read some comments to say they broke after few weeks or months.....

Please help this first time mum!

My best advice is honestly, wait until LO is here. Pumping isn't advised straight away anyway and if you do need to pump at first for a reason then the hospital can usually lend you a pump

Hi, we got a Lansinoh double '2 in 1' electric pump while pregnant and it's been a godsend. We've had lots of feeding problems and although we went home from hospital breastfeeding a few nights later we had a very unhappy baby and a very unhappy mum. I was able to pump straight away, DH could do a couple of feeds while i slept which bought me some sanity and us all some time.

Bub is now nearly 4 weeks, she's too sleepy at night to feed straight from me so I pump and give it in a bottle. Yes, you can rent hospital grade pumps but my little one would be on formula now if we hadn't had it ready to go exactly when we needed it.

I would wait and see; if you’re going to do a lot of pumping you might want an electric one but if you find out that your baby doesn’t take to a bottle or you aren’t keen on pumping all the time then it’s a lot of money. Also they say not to introduce a bottle until breastfeeding is established so we waited until 6 weeks
Calypso is my recommendation though if you do decide to get one

I have a single Medela Swing which am now using with second baby so no issues with reliability etc but definitely agree with waiting until baby comes. If you have any issues with bf and need to exclusively express for any period of time then hiring a hospital grade one is much more efficient.

I am happy with Medela for expressing for occasional bottle (usually no more than once a day) but others recommend Specta and Calypso highly. The new Elvie one looks amazing too, just can't justify the cost when I already have a Medela

Following as I’m in a similar situation but by baby is here! I was advised not to buy a pump straight away but I’ll be going back to work at 6 months and would like to still be giving breast milk, so I’ll need one soon met it later.

LO feeds fine from me but it’s exhausting and his weight gain is slow ( although he was born just under 9lb and is lovely and pink and doing loads of Nappies). I’ve been using a haakaa cup to catch leakage from non feeding breast which is giving 100ml ish daily for two ‘daddy bottles’. It’s a cheap silicone suction pump.

I’m leaning towards the lasinoh pump for expressing straight into freezer bags. But OH wants me to try with an inexpensive manual pump first , I think that’s a false economy.
