Reusable nappy help

ps1991 · 02/03/2019 15:22

I have a 6 week old and we have been using a mix of nappies mainly pampers as others sometimes give him a sore bum. I’m wanting to switch to reusable nappies for during the day. Can anyone offer advise on the best way to go about this, how many nappies would I need, and which are the best to try etc. Thanks

Go the thenappylady website and fill in the questionnaire she is great.

How many? At 6 weeks somewhere around 8-10 a day then times by how long it’ll take to dry and wash. I’d say 25 would do if you wash ever other day, especially if you’re line drying.

What type did you have in mind?

Have you got a nappy library nearby? So you can try before you buy. Also does your local council offer any incentive schemes?
I waited until my little one was big enough for birth to potty nappies, I think it was about 8lb from memory
Look up the nappy lady, she has a questionnaire to help find the best nappies. I initially got most of my stash second hand before buying more of the ones that worked best new. There are lots of Facebook groups that have sales

We use a mix of mio solos, avla baby pockets and Terry nappies.

All in ones are easiest as they're stitched like pampers so go on just the same and you wash them.
All in twos come with a wrap and the absorbant nappy part.
Terries are harder as you have to fold them and you need seperate waterproof wraps but they're much cheeper and dry faster we use them almost exclusively.
Avla babies are pockets so they're the waterproof wrap with a pocket stitched in that you can stuff with an absorbent insert.
Dd is 10 months we've been using cloth since she was 3 weeks we love them. No leaks no poo explosions we do a wash every three days and go through 4 nappies a day then one at night so you'd need about 15 plus 5 more for drying day.

Look at a local nappy library or cloth bum mums on fb.

Definitely recommend going on the Nappy Lady website and filling out the short questionnaire. It's free and she emails you no obligation suggestions on what system to get/how many nappies etc based on your requirements and budget.

Wow fantastic thanks for your replies. I’ll check out nappy lady and see. I didn’t think to look for second hand sets so I’ll try that too

Aldi had some of the Mio solo ones in their baby event, not sure if it's still running but they were £8 instead of about £15.
Your local NCT might have a nappy library.
I've been looking into this and the wizard duo set on the nappy lady website looks good.
