Shaving

Just a general question about girls and leg shaving. My 11 yo DD will be 12 in a few months, going to secondary school in September. She has recently brought up that she's a little self conscious of her hairy legs, and would like to start shaving. I'm not sure what to do...I don't want her to feel like she had to conform to bullshit beauty standards, but I also want her to feel comfortable/have body autonomy. At what age did you let your girls start shaving?

Don't get me wrong, I am more than willing to support her if she wants to do it, I guess it's just that she is my baby, and I don't want her to grow up too fast!

We started with hair removal cream just before DD started secondary school, moved onto waxing by year 9 and a year or so later she started shaving. It’s sooooo hard watching your little lady turn into a little woman but it’s also wonderful. I was reluctant too but if she’s already commented on it I would get rid.

When she asked. She was just 12.

I took dd to a beatification to get her legs waxed properly when she asked, and gave her an epilator at Christmas. She was 12 and in Y7. She used it on and off for a few moths, then lost interest. She's 16 now, and only removes her leg hair in the summer.

Dd tried wet shaving once, but didn't like it. She's also tried home waxing. Her preference is to get most of the hair off with waxing strips, then keep it maintained with the epilator.

DYA! A beautician, of course.

Ok, thanks so much for the replies!! At the moment, she wears trousers to school, but I suspect this summer she'll want to be smooth...at least it gives me a few months to wrap my head around it lol!

I was about twelve when I decided I needed to shave my legs - borrowed my mum’s razor and cut my legs to ribbons trying to shave them dry Blush. She offered to take me to get waxed or to buy me an epilator!

I moved onto shaving in my own time but now in my thirties I hardly bother. During the tween and teen/school pe lessons and discos phase though I’m glad I had the option.
