5am wake ups HEELLPP

Up until about 2 weeks ago our 7mo slept 7pm-7am (bliss!) but now she has decided that 5am is a good time to get up for the day! She usually wakes up at 5am hungry as she takes a full 6/7oz bottle, but then is wide awake and refuses to go back to sleep. We have tried putting her back in her cot but she just whinges and cries. Some may say shes just an early riser but she has always slept until 7am before this so I know something is going on! Help/advice appreciated, we are shattered!! Xx

What naps does she have in the day? Maybe time to drop a nap! My 10 month old is transitioning from 2 to 1 nap atm and we are having early wakeups/late nights while he's in the process of dropping it!

Try supper before she goes to bed?

That works for adults too, the later you eat, the later you sleep. Try a banana, apparently they trigger the production of serotonin and melatonin.

I have a nearly 3 year old. I have lost count of how many times she suddenly changes to 5am wake ups and then as quick as it starts it’s back to normal again. Usually last a few days or a couple of weeks max. It’s tough, by IMO normal. I now trust it’s always just a blip and don’t stress too much. Hopefully it will be over for you soon!

It could be a growth spurt. Give her a huge supper!

I vaguely remember DD doing something similar for a brief time but I was able to bring her into our bed and she'd sleep for an extra hour.

My 9 month old has been doing this on and off for the last month or two. She's still breastfed and we're co sleeping (because she suddenly decided at 6 months that she hates her cot!) but I don't think it's relevant here. (my point for mentioning it is that shes waking early but she will had fed through the night). I feed her again anyway at whatever time she wakes which is anytime between 5-7am and sometimes she goes back to sleep. No advice. Just having a whinge with you!

Mine's been doing this, too. I don't take him out of the cot for his bottle. Just a quick snack (I give him 3-4oz, though he's probably take a full bottle but I don't want to encourage his body to wake up by habit at this time) and back to bed. Then full proper bottle when he's awake at 8am.

I also tried doing a feed at 11pm to varying degrees of success.

Thanks guys! We have been giving her breakfast and lunch so maybe time to introduce an evening meal now, will give it a go :). Also she has between 2hr30 - 3hrs of naps a day, but I did notice a few days ago we were out with friends and she totally bypassed her lunchtime nap, just had her morning and then afternoon nap and she slept straight through until 730am! So perhaps we need to drop a nap.... However I thought it was the late afternoon nap that got dropped first? I think she would probably drop the lunchtime nap if she could as she usually fights that one the most xx

I'd say drop whichever nap she seems ready to drop. 😁
