DS (5months old) doesn't acknowledge me when around others

Hello!

I wondered if this is normal.
My DS (5 months old) is adorable and is a very smiley baby. However over the past few days, he has stopped making eye contact or smiling at me when we are around other people. He is completely fine with me when we are alone and in our house but when we visit family or when around strangers he will acknowledge and smile/make eye contact at everyone but me! It's breaking my heart :( it's only been like this for the past few days! He's not like this with DH and I am with DS all day every day.

Thanks in advance!

My dd also 5 months and she is the same. It bothered me too but apparently the sign of healthy attachment is that they can't even know the difference in you and them. You are the closest attachment they have abs they still don't know you are any different to them. But I'm sure it will all change in a few months and then we won't be able to put them down!

At that age well-attached babies have a difficult time distinguishing the difference between themselves and their mothers. Smile If anything, it's a good sign!

My daughter went through this. She's 10 months now and is constantly reaching for me and seeking me out!

Yes, fine. Because LO is so healthily attached to you he is confident enough to explore without feeling the need to check you're still there.

Perfectly normal. I sit in baby groups badly singing my heart out doing all the signs with much enthusiasm.. ds watches the mum sitting next to me. But their baby is watching me, so my performance isn't wasted!

Other people have weird faces. Try not to worry.
