Asking to drop a day - scared to ask!

I have only been on maternity leave 3 weeks and DC1 isn’t here yet as he/she is 2 weeks overdue nowso ive had plenty of time to twiddle my thumbs.

I’ll be going back when DC1 is 5 and a half months. I currently work 40 hours a week although in reality it’s far more than that due to all the unpaid overtime I do.

I was hoping to drop working Mondays and do 34 hours a week and have DC in childcare 4 days a week...but I’m too scared to ask!

When would be a good time to ask as DC isn’t here yet.

I would ask when your work starts asking you about when you'll be returning to work. I wouldn't mention it until then personally.

I didn't ask until the back to work planning meeting and completed a formal flexible working request.
