When to transition from cot to bed?

My little one is 10 months and currently sleeps in a cot in her own room. We already have a single bed set up in the room that will be hers when she's older.

When should we transition her to that bed? And is it a problem that it's a single and not a toddler bed?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! If she's happy in a cot I don't see the point in transitioning her until there's a good reason - that's not about a fixed age.

DD is 2 and 3 months and still happily in a cot bed.

"When they start escaping the cot" was our rule. And a single bed was fine for ours (just more area for them to move around in when asleep Grin).

My 2 year old still sleeps in his cotbed and will continue to for as long as possible. I cannot imagine trying to get him to sleep if he could just get out of bed.

Our DD was in her cot till she climbed and fell out at 2 years then went in a single bed xx

We moved our DD to her new room & toddler bed on her 3rd birthday; her new room was her present. It was definitely time as she'd figured out how to climb out her cot a few months prior & would run about so had to put a stair gate across her door.

I did it once he threw himself out of the cot! Straight into a single bed with no problems, just make sure there is a bed guard up on it x

Thanks everyone! And yes we have a bed guard Smile

Presumably also stair gate at the door so they can't escape and run around the house?

Dd was 2 and ds was 2 and a half when they moved to a single bed. Stairgate was at the top of the stairs rather than on the door

When they can climb out. There is no right age, just a right time. And don't bother with a toddler bed, just get a bed rail. DD moved into a big bed at two and a half, and at 18 still sleeps in the same bed.

DD bed is from Ikea - it starts as a toddler bed, then expands to a junior bed, then a single bed so should last her ages & it has a sticky outy but that sort of acts as a bed guard so no need for extra bed guard.

We put ds in a bed at 17 months. He was happy in the cot but I knew he'd be even happier in a bed. So we done it and he loved his bed. So glad I did

That toddler bed is great apurplesquirrel but unfortunately we have the Hemnes day bed already and it's sort of wedged into the room - I can't face getting it out and taking it down!

I think it'll have to be the sooner of her being able to climb out and my having a new baby. Positioning it as a birthday present is a great idea.
