Can you get a toddler to rest when ill?

My toddler has a rotten cold, complete with chesty cough and a bit of wheezing (don't worry, we've seen the GP, it's just a cold). He has just got the hang of walking, so it is still physically quite a bit of effort for him. He spends all day getting muddy in the garden, running through the house and climbing the stairs. Is it possible to get him to rest, or just slow down a bit? If I was ill like that I know I'd feel a lot worse for running around all day.

No. :o

You can try TV or sticker books?

Generally though toddlers don't rest when they are ill, it's a pain but their body will tell them when they feel tired.

Not really, I'm afraid! In my experience, when they really need to rest, they do it anyway - and that's when you know they're really poorly! If he feels well enough to play, that's a good thing - let him get on with it, but you could always pop him in front of the TV for a while if you want him to take it easy.
