How would you handle this?

More of a survey than expecting a definitive answer.

3 children walk home from school.

DC1 spies feather, asks DC2: Ooh, a feather, get that for me!

DC2 keeps feather for himself.

DC1 bursts into hysterics: I saw it first!! Make him give it to me!! etc. She already has a pot full of feathers in wardrobe at home, of course.

DC3 joins in with screams and demands for the feather by the time we arrive home.

Would you intervene at all? Tell DC2 to give it to DC1, since DC1 saw feather first? Fetch a feather for DC1 and DC3? Tell them all off? Throw feather on the fire? Open the wine early? What would you do?

I'd probably take the feather off them and tell them to grow up

nell12 · 05/07/2007 19:59

tell them not to pick it up in the first place... full of germs!

Ulysees · 05/07/2007 19:59

Was thinking that too nell

I'd give them one warning that if they couldn't play nicely and share the feather, it would go in the bin. And if they continued, then it would go in the bin.

And then I'd tell DC1 that, next time s/he wants a feather, s/he's to get it him/herself rather than get their younger sibling to do the running!

Get some more feathers from a passing bird?

CountTo10 · 05/07/2007 20:06

Either they have to share it or it goes in the bin, or dc 1 gets it themself next time - finders keepers!!

throckenholt · 05/07/2007 20:18

yell at them to stop arguing and probably get angry and throw the feather away.

probably not the right answer

throckenholt · 05/07/2007 20:34

oops killed it !

Hathor · 05/07/2007 20:37

Take the feather. Say you will cut it into 3 pieces with your penknife and give each dc a piece. Or they can take turns.

NoodleStroodle · 05/07/2007 20:38

Killed thread or bird?

Killing the bird would certainly be a distraction and take their minds off the pesky feather

lljkk · 05/07/2007 20:39

ROFL, Noodle.
Once they were fighting over a map and I ripped it up and threw in the bin. They all howled thereafter and still rate it as one of the most traumatic things I ever did to them.

... which just goes to show what spoilt little sausages they are.
