Baby hates being in car - help!!

My 4 month old son absolutely hates being in the car, he's been like it for over a month now. I don't think it's the actual seat as when he's in it in the house he's not bothered but as soon as he's in the car he starts crying. We have a hanging toy on the handle of the seat but he's not bothered, I've ordered a mirror for the back seat to see whether that will help but wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
Really is unbearable going anywhere as he gets himself so worked up and can take ages to console afterwards, it's making me stay in a lot and with a 2 year we're both getting pretty bored and fed up. Help!

Do you just have the hanging toy?
We have a selection of toys dd (9m) only has when she's in the car. Her hanging one stressed her out so we put 2-3 different toys on her lap. She had a fussy phase around 4 months but hasn't been bothered since we've given her things to do.

I have the same issue and have submitted to seat belted into front passenger seat with airbag off.
My expensive isofix base is having a lovely time alone in the back. Am hoping it’s a phase!!

DD is 7 months and has hated the car since we brought her home from hospital, it hasn't got any better I'm afraid.

She will entertain nursery rhymes being played loudly over the speakers and we sit in the back with her if there's 2 of us and she watches little baby bum on a phone so going to get a tablet holder soon.

MustBeAWeasley thanks for the suggestion, I will try some different toys on his lap tomorrow, he does a favourite one that always makes him smile so I'll give that a go.

I'm glad it's not just me (in the least horrible way!!) that has this, my 2 year old has always been fab in the car since a baby so it's been a bit of a shock!
