15 week old screaming during feeds

Hi there, i have a 15 week old. She was born prematurely at 35 weeks, since then she has been diagnosed with a milk protein allergy. She also was diagnosed with reflux and given gaviscon. She's never been happy drinking, screaming during feeds, not wanting the bottle and resulting in going 6 to 12 hours between feeds.
Her milk has been changed to Neogate, which has no protein in but yet she is still screaming in pain. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences and also if anyone was or had used gaviscon and it just didn't work? I have tried her milk both with gaviscon and with nothing but both methods she's screaming. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated 🙏 😊

Have you had her checked for tongue tie?

Feeding can be very painful (breast or bottle) for babies whose tongues are immobilised in some way.

Same as above also after a feed have you tried baby massage incase babe is gassy. My lo did that when he was that age and was also a premmie.

Gaviscon did nothing for my little one, he was still screaming every feed. It all changed when we got ranitidine and we were able to wean him off it by 8 months fully :)

Thank you for all your feedback. She got checked for tongue tie about a month ago. I am going to push for the ranitdine as I just have this gut feeling it's the gaviscon.... We do baby massage all the time and I'm constantly giving her the time to have a good kick about with her nappy of after every feed..... Thank you all again 😊

No worries! I had to push SO hard for it but it totally changed our lives!

How long has your DD been on neocate? It can take a few weeks to work. We use carobel as my DD refused Gaviscon but needs a thicker milk due to reflux.

Also, we've recently changed to Dr Brown's bottles which have made a big difference to wind. I wish we'd changed sooner.

My DD (16 weeks) hated feeding and I dreaded it as she screamed and refused milk. This week she finished a 6oz bottle for the first time, we couldn't believe it. She still fusses and there are tears at times but we've seen a big improvement. Not sure if it's neocate, omeprazole, the bottles or a combination!

Good luck, it's tough!
