head banging tantrums

My dd is throwing some awful tantrums recently and she’s now got into this habit of throwing herself down on the ground and repeatedly smacking her head off the floor and doing it quite forcefully over and over, she also does this with all the furniture as well. she nuts the arms of the sofas, baby gates, tables pretty much anything she can find that’s hard enough to hurt. She’s doing this hard enough to leave bruises all over her face and occasionally now we have cuts and bloody mouths because of this. No one else but me seems to see this as a cause for concern. I’m hoping someone can shed some light and tell me this is just some sort of phase she will grow out of before she seriously harms herself or if I need to keep bringing this up with hv

If she's hurting herself maybe have a chat to the HV.
I have family who did this as children and it was what they did to get attention but they would do it then look to see if you were looking.

Has her routine changed recently? Are you at work more or her dad? Has she started nursery? Or theres a new baby.

I hope it gets better soon for you both

I totally feel your pain!!

My little one does the same. I have no words of wisdom or advice or anything. Just know you're not alone!!

My son did this at about the same age, first time I was so horrified I gave him a cuddle then was worried I had just reinforced the behaviour by giving it attention. Next time I walked straight out of the room as I really couldn’t bare to watch. He hasn’t done it in a very long time now and he’s a little over 2 now. Hopefully this will be a short lived phase for you.
