Child anxiety about intruders?

DS aged 11 has suddenly become anxious about intruders. I got home from work early this week and he burst into tears because he was so frightened hearing someone coming into the house unexpectedly.

Another day I got home and there was a knife on the lounge table as he thought he'd heard someone trying to get in so he'd got that to try to "protect himself".

He stayed at his dad's last night and tried to phone me and my partner between 3 and 4am as he'd barricaded himself in the bathroom at his dad's, thinking someone was trying to break in!

We're seeing Camhs this week anyway but has anyone experienced this and do they have any tips on how to help reduce this anxiety?!

He is home alone after school and I've suggested going back to his former childminder's for a while instead of coming home to an empty house, but he doesn't want to.

I'm sorry I don't have much advice but in a similar situation with ds7. He constantly worries about this and death. His little sister had a sore bottom after a pokey nappy and was screaming. He started sobbing "she's going to die isn't she?" but ds has been like this for ages and has reasons (adopted, spd, fas)
If he's suddenly started doigg this has something in particular triggered him? You say he's already got a cahms appt. Could what your going for and that be linked at all?
I know how stressful it is. We repeatedly go over how we're safe and why eg doors are locked. Could you show him statistics for your area on police website to reassure him (aslong as they're not bad) sending you hugs
