My 15 month old seems to have constant colds

As the title says, my 15 month old seems to have a constant cold. As soon as he gets over one, he picks up another. He’s had about 5-10 days well since before Christmas. He’s not very poorly, lots of snot and coughing, but it’s stopping him sleeping at night as he wakes coughing and generally feeling crappy probably. I’ve taken him to GP who says it’s a viral infection and it’s the time of year. His nursery worker said that lots of children in his nursery seem to have a constant sniffle too.

Any tips how I can help him in the meantime? For his sake and for the want of a decent nights sleep! We’ve tried Calpol, menthol plug in, having room warmer/ cooler, raising his mattress (doesn’t work as he wriggles all over the cot even when he’s well). I just wondered if any wise MNers has any suggestions?

Thanks

Does he show any signs of anaemia OP? Anaemia can affect immunity Smile

When did he start nursery? DS’s first winter after starting nursery was full of constant colds and/or stomach bugs. It’s so much better this year (his second winter at nursery), he’s barely been ill at all. Sorry that’s not much help, but if he’s anything like mine it should improve!

We had similar when DS was little, it went on for more that a year and eventually someone actually took notice and referred him to a paediatrician who took one look and referred him to an ENT consultant.

It turned out his adenoids were too big; the fluid couldn't drain from his nose properly and he was getting permanent sinus infections !

Adenoids and tonsils removed for good measure and he's barely been ill since, he's now 11 😊

He started nursery in November so maybe that’s it Sleep. I don’t recall DS1 having this many colds but they’re all different aren’t they. If it persists into the summer I’ll press our GP to refer him to ENT. Glad your DS got sorted Frangipan
