Dummy

I have a 2.5 year old, he's had a dummy since he started sucking his thumb at a few days old, and I switched his thumb for a dummy.

We've kept the dummy for sleep-times and sometimes in the car. But for the last week or so, he's asking for it CONSTANTLY! He's getting really upset if I don't give it to him, or just going on and on and on about it.

We've been doing fun activities, play barns, parks, etc etc, and he just gets tearful and says he wants to go home for a sleep... because he knows he will then get his dummy.

When and how is best to get rid of the blooming thing?

The difficulty is, I'm due a baby shortly, and I'm worried taking it off him now, when he's about to become so unsettled will be a mistake. He already seems quite unsettled and has started to become really clingy toward me.

Any advice?

You will hear and read a thousand ways to do this but honestly, I think you should tell him whatever you like, but that the dummy is going. he will create all hell for e few days and then get over it. It you give in the next attempt will be twice as hard. Chucke them in the bin, cuts th teats off, whatever but DO NOT keep one for emergency. In the meantime, am he puts the dummy down on a bedroom shelf and he doesnt ever get it until bedtime

Can you save it just for night time sleep? So he doesn't get it at all until bedtime. Say "you can have it at bedtime". Repeat calmly as many times as it takes.
