Second hand travel cot help!

Hi,

I've very kindly been given a second hand Mamas and Papas classic travel cot for my 6 month DS.

It is in full working order but understandably needs a good clean after being used by my sister's three children over the years! My plan is to use it for sleeping away from home every couple of months, maybe the odd daytime nap at home and for a playpen.

I've got two questions:

  1. How would you go about cleaning the mesh sides? I was thinking diluted washing powder and allowing to dry fully but not sure whether this would banish the (presumably) food stains.
  1. Are travel cots like normal cots in that I would need to purchase a new mattress? If so, does anybody have any recommendations?

Thank you :)

I also planned to reuse a travel cot.
Ddog decided eating into one side to get in and munching out the other end to get back out was a better plan.
Sorry no help at all.

If the cot is in that state I'd definitely get a new mattress. A lot of them only come with a base and no mattress at all though, so it may never have had one. Is it a 120 x 60 cm travel cot? If so, you can either buy a folding mattress somewhere like Amazon (we got a Hauck one but there are others) or get the thinest Ikea mattress, and you can roll it up to transport it (use straps or string to tie it up).

No suggestions on cleaning the sides I'm afraid, ours was 2nd hand but didn't need anything more than a quick wipe.

That's great thank you! I'll have to look up the dimensions and will take a look at the Hauck one:)

Some of them unzip so you can take the fabric off.

Oh that would be good so you can wash it. He will be in a sleeping bag too so hopefully not too much mess but you never know!

I soaked mine in the bath with detergent, then rinsed with the shower head and stood to air dry. Took a while but came up lovely.

I also got a new mattress, I got one from Asda for £20 that fits perfect. It's a proper cot mattress so can't be wrapped around the cot. I put it on top of the old mattress which is just a plank of wood with a bit of foam!
