What's the best way to react when your (newly) toilet trained child has an 'accident' because they can't be bothered to go to the loo?

ds toilet trained for about 2 mths. How should i react when he just doesn't bother going to the toilet - yesterday he just watched himself go on the living room rug!?

How should i be reacting?

You have to be very emotionless and don't show you're cross at all and just say "let's clear up and next time, I'm sure you'll reach the toliet in time". Or along those lines.
If your DS knows it bothers you, he'll do it all the time. You could reward him when he does get to the toilet.

Also, if he's not going because he's busy watching tele or something, take the thing he's doing away and say it'll still be there after he's been to the loo.

If it continues one thing I did was making him change himself after an accident. It worked well. He noticed how much longer it took to change his own clothes than it did to go to the toilet. No play until you are clean and I'm not changing you. Agree that trying not to be emotional is best (but I didn't always find that easy to do either).
