What do your yr2 boys do after school?

I’m trying to engage me son in more than I bloody iPad. It’s the first thing he asks me for in the morning and moans when I say he has to have his breakfast and get dressed first, and the first thing he asks me or when he comes home from school. He used to live playing and have a really good imagination, now minecraft and roblox are taking over and I hate it. He does clubs 3 tines a week after school and I don’t mind him having it for half an hour in the morning when he is dressed and everything done and the same before bed when everything is done, but the constant asking is so grating. He likes Lego, but has seem to gone off it in favour of electronics. In the summer he will be ok outside with his bike and football but what do your boys like? Are they all like this? I honestly think it’s rotting his brain a bit he is like obsessed with it!!

My yr2 son has football on Mon and Wed, cookery on Tues and sees my parents on Thurs. He doesn’t have access to screens or consoles, but sometimes I let him just flump in front of the tv after school if he’s knackered.

He’s definitely lost interest in toys lately, it makes me so sad! Managed to get him playing with Playmobil again this week by bringing his big castles down. He’s obsessed with football though so mostly spends his time writing down league tables and playing imaginary games of it when the weather means he can’t be outside playing. Like yours, I barely see him in the summer!

Like others have said, just take the iPad off the table - tell him he can only have it on wkds (or whatever works for you) and then just repeat that every time he asks.

It makes me sad he’s stopped playing with toys so much. I used to love watching him play. We have a new routine and iPad on set days. Loads of lovely ideas to get him interested in new things from you all so thank you very much for that.

Yes, we bake mid week. Biscuits usually, which only take 30 min, max.
Secondary clearing up (ie the proper clean after the kids have cleaned) done after bedtime!

My DS is in Y2 and has tried every hobby under the sun and nothing has stuck. Football was the one that stuck the longest but hes really not an outdoors person and was quickly back to gaming. Like you I'd rather he played with toys inside (or preferably found a hobby) but its always back to his tablet. He does out-of-school club 3 nights a week while I work though so its not long he's on for in the week.

My yr1 does swimming Monday football tues MultiSports wed and Spanish thurs whilst I work. I pick him up at 6 and he is knackered so I let him play iPad or watch tv whilst I cook tea and he's then in bath for 7/7.30 bed 8

On weekends I let him have iPad more .. it's difficult but he still plays with marble runs hot wheels and Lego

He will also play with board games with me if I encourage it

Oh mine has also graduated from toys to single person board games of the ThinkFun variety. We also play board games on weekends etc.

Netflix, lego, playmobil, drawing.

But he isn't allowed on the xbox except friday and the weekend.

We stopped letting him use a tablet or go on the xbox because he was getting grumpy and i didn't like the attitude change.
