At what age did you stop taking your dc up to bed, reading them a story and tucking them in ? I love this bit of the day and can't see us stopping any time soon. Ds Is 5 1/2 .

DD is 9, almost 10 and is at an age where she will now take herself to bed but I'll always follow and tuck her in, sometimes read a story, other nights we just lie there and chat. My favourite time of the day.

starryeyed19 · 27/01/2019 21:28

My 12 year old asked me to tuck her in last night Smile

I love that she occasionally still wants to be tucked in

Happyandshiney · 27/01/2019 21:30

Mine are 11 yo and still like me to come in and kiss them goodnight.

They don’t like their Grandparents tucking them in anymore though and prefer to say goodnight to them down stairs.

I still tuck in my DS 11. A wee cuddle and lights out. Love it!

Luglio · 27/01/2019 21:34

They tuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to but they do.

FreshGarbage · 27/01/2019 21:36

Luglio! Love it!

Hoppinggreen · 27/01/2019 21:38

My 10 year old likes me to fluff his duvet and give him a kiss
I will do it as long as he wants me too

Faster · 27/01/2019 21:42

Oh god this pulled at my heart strings. DS is at his dads house tonight, same as every Sunday, and I miss being able to pop him to bed and tuck him in. And then going back up after an hour just to check.

123rd · 27/01/2019 21:42

Argh...my 12ds still wants someone to go up with him. Whilst he does his teeth I normally have a job to do...put some clothes away, give the bath a wash down etc. But then a quick kiss and into bed.
When he was younger he used to takes for ever to settle down and would I used to be up there far too long.

WineGummyBear · 27/01/2019 22:01

I was wondering the same. DS is 8 and we are just moving to 'you get into your PJs and brush your teeth and we'll be up to do a story and tuck in.

Beamur · 27/01/2019 22:06

DD is 11. I still go in every night and chat with her for a while, say goodnight and 'tuck her in'. Can't see that changing any time soon.

blamethecat · 27/01/2019 22:06

I'm so glad I have loads more years to do this ! Checking him when I go to bed makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, he snuggles up to his giant tiger Smile.
In fact I'm off to bed and to check him now.

My eldest is nearly 14 and we still take them up. Well, we follow them up, kiss goodnight and turn the light out. They don't seem to want us to stop!

They're mature and independent in other ways.

dalmatianmad · 27/01/2019 22:08

I tuck dd 17 and ds 15 in! Give them a kiss and tell them I love them Grin

BackforGood · 27/01/2019 22:08

A LONG LONG time after 5 and 1/2 Smile

It does depend to some extent, if they are dc1, or dc3 (or 4 or 5 I presume).

As others have said, long after you stop reading them a story, you still tend to go in and say goodnight / have a chat / "tuck them in" in a different way.

Then they start going to bed after you, and yes, sometimes they come in and sit on the end of the bed to "tuck you in" Grin

Canshopwillshop · 27/01/2019 22:09

I still go up and ‘tuck in’ my 14 year old DD and 12 year old DS. They get themselves ready for bed but still like me to go in and say goodnight and give them a kiss.

BrokenWing · 27/01/2019 22:10

I still go in and give ds(14) a kiss goodnight, on a school night I tuck the bottom of his duvet under as he likes his feet in the fold, on a weekend I take him up a glass of water and say goodnight around 10-ish as he usually goes to bed after me!

DramaAlpaca · 27/01/2019 22:10

We stopped when the DC started saying goodnight & taking themselves up to bed, so around 11 or 12 or so.

newyearnewwhat · 27/01/2019 22:13

@Caticorn same here! Dc are 13 & 17 very independent and grown up in most ways but still love to be tucked in and we always swap kisses and say I love you etc
Ds is 13 and he often pats the bed and says 'come and have a cuddle Mum' I lay on his duvet and we have a hug and chat.

confusednorthner · 27/01/2019 22:13

10 & 12 and we aren't allowed not to! 10yr old insists on a snuggle as well as kiss

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/01/2019 22:14

I still tuck in DDs ages 17 and 15 most nights. We'll often have a little chat, I'll get them a glass of water and kiss them goodnight. I love that we still do this. If they have friends round I pop my head in, check they are all ok and say goodnight but don't hang around.

Timtims · 27/01/2019 22:17

I tuck my 9yo in every night, and kiss my 12yo goodnight although she's often still up.
I ALWAYS go in to check on them before I go to sleep.

fruityb · 27/01/2019 22:20

My mum still came in when I was about 13-14 and tucked me in and had a quick chat about things. She died when I was 15 but I still think fondly on that. She’d ask how school was and come and give me a hug. It was like ten minutes of just us and in a house that had five kids in it that didn’t happen often! I plan on tucking my ds in for as long as I can get away with it!

NorksAreMessy · 27/01/2019 22:22

DH is an owl, I am a lark.

He tucks me in. ;)

BackforGood · 27/01/2019 22:56

When dc2 is home from University, I go in and sit / lie on her bed and have a chat for a few mins when I am on my way up to bed.

I don't do it to dc1, if his girlfriend is staying over Wink
