Struggling to brush 22 month old teeth

My 22 month old refuses to actually brush her teeth. She'll stick the tooth brush in her mouth and chew on it but not actually brush anything. If I try and help her do it, she just spits it out and refuses to open her mouth. Does anyone have any good ideas how to encourage her to brush properly. I'm worried she's not brushing anything at the moment.

Our son used to hate getting his teeth brushed but loved his bedtime story, I used to tell him that if he didn’t brush his teeth he couldn’t have a story, he called my bluff a few times but changed his mind before I had left his room, also have a couple of toothbrushes available so he can pick which one he uses so he has a bit of control

I'm afraid to say that we had the same problem and it took over a year to work through it.

He can still be a bit of a dick at times, but mostly just gets on with it. He is too strong and wilful to be forced into it these days. Never ideal to force them but when you've tried everything else and they just won't comply, you have to resort to desperate measures!
