My DD is 6 months in 2 weeks, she chews on hands a lot but never any toys, i was hoping to introduce finger food soon but if she doesnt put toys up to her mouth i have no chance of her picking food up have i??

I have tried giving her teether toys but she just holds them.

She picks & holds toys etc but then drops them.

Should i be concerned?

My baby stuck all their toys in their mouths, but wouldn't do the same with food.

He still doesn't like to feed himself, he is perfectly capable but prefers us to do it. He does do it for certain food, but not others. He's one. Shock

I'm not sure what there is to be concerned about- maybe someone with better knowledge will be along to say different.

You've still got a couple weeks to go and no one says you have to start on the dot of 6 months. We did baby led weaning with my now 9 month old dd and I'll recommend it till I'm blue in the face. I go out with friends now who are fighting to stick spoons of puree at baby while their food goes cold. me and my dd just sit and eat. I don't have to intervene at all.

Anyway we waited till 6 months and a week as she wasn't sitting and she wasn't really chewing anything. Once she had food she put everything into her mouth and then started chewing toys just see how you go at 6 months 🙂

I'd be delighted if mine didn't chew every single thing he can get his hands on. It's revolting. You can only try and see, big fan of BLW here as my one firmly refused a spoon but it still took him a couple of weeks to get the hang of it.

My daughter wasn't a huge chewer of toys but was absolutely delighted to get her mits on broccoli trees and toast fingers and would try anything you stuck in front of her.

Just give it a go, if she's not interested try feeding from 'your' plate as that might seem rather grown up and exciting to her.
