I agree with Aloha re it's wanting to copy mummy. Even my 3 year old ds likes to try a bit of my moisturiser, lip balm etc.

belgo · 30/06/2007 15:02

Dyeing your child's hair doesn't bother that much. But I really dislike children wearing lipstick, even for fun.

Aloha · 30/06/2007 15:02

So what if it takes three washes to disappear? It doesn't hurt, doesn't stop her doing anything and is harmless.

i have to hide my eyelash curlers after a very unfortunate incident

Aloha · 30/06/2007 15:03

Aaargh, have inadvertently made myself pitchfork target....ok, look, put down the burning torches and walk away...

Blandmum · 30/06/2007 15:04

Run, Aloha, run!

Can you see the flames??

Professorfilthymindedvixen · 30/06/2007 15:04

my mate's ds painted his eys shut with nail varnish, when he was about 3 or 4...

meandmyflyingmachine · 30/06/2007 15:05

I have already admitted to applying a dab of lipgloss. Ah well...

dyeingchildshair · 30/06/2007 15:05

i have a nailvarnished painted duvet. which was white.

Professorfilthymindedvixen · 30/06/2007 15:09

my ds's both like wearing lipsalve/vaseline. they then chase each other round the house threatening to kiss each other 'like girls'

Twiglett · 30/06/2007 15:09

FGS its a wash-in wash out shampoo .. and she skin tested first

ok its not something I'd personally choose to do with my DD, but its not such a big deal is it?

laneydaye · 30/06/2007 15:11

lmao at }.... mate's ds painted his eys shut with nail varnish.

TrinityRhino · 30/06/2007 15:11

Of course children want to do as their parents do...Finding difficult to find something apropaiate to shave, my friend's little brother shaved his eyebrows at that age.

Enid · 30/06/2007 15:12

I'd never dye my dds hair and would probably think it was odd if one of their friends kids had their hair dyed

but there are worse things

dyeingchildshair · 30/06/2007 15:12

i did a grade 6 (i think) on my eldest daughter at 2 as well. when she was asleep. she wouldnt sit still for hairdresser to do it so asked hairdresser friend what to do. gave her a very cute elf-y cut.

Enid · 30/06/2007 15:13

I am more happy with ds's having their nails painted etc

I think you have to be a bit careful with girls personally.

TrinityRhino · 30/06/2007 15:15

really???
I will just clarify

I DID NOT WANT to shave my dd2's hair at all but since sh stripped half her head of hair from pulling i out the doc said we must shave it for 6 months to get her out of the habit
I am actually quite upset by it

Mercy · 30/06/2007 15:15

Didn't someone recently post about a mum who put fake tan on her children?

That's something I really don't get tbh.

Enid · 30/06/2007 15:16

eh? I dont think anyone mentioned the hair thing did they trinity

there was a reason behind that I know

not the smae thing really

dyeingchildshair · 30/06/2007 15:17

yes trinity. she was a right wriggler. and her hair was all over the place and very wispy. so we did a grade 6 (longer than a 4). it gave her a lot of hair left and a very cute cut. it wasnt a harsh buzz cut.

divastrop · 30/06/2007 15:17

ha.i did exactly the same thing to my dd's hair when she was 4.i was dyeing my hair and she was soing on and on (as they do) 'i want to dye my hair' so in the end i said,ok,i'll get you one of those shampoo thingys.and i did,and it looked hardly any different anyway, and washed out in one wash.

she never wanted it done again.she is 8.5 now and never wants to dye her hair in case it goes strw-like like mummy's.

she also used to play around with some of my lipstick, but i would never have let her leave the house with it on.

little girls just like to copy their mum.even dd2(18 months)has tried to change dd3's(16 weeks)nappy, and she likes to dust with a baby wipe

saadia · 30/06/2007 15:17

I think it is a slightly odd thing to do, artificial stuff looks horrible on young children. I can't stand to see little girls dressed up in grown-up styles or wearing high-heels, make-up, nail varnish. I worry slightly when I see it.

Enid · 30/06/2007 15:18

although thinking about this if one of my dds wanted to dye their hair after watching me do mine (they don't - they have no interest whatsoever in my labourious beauty regime) I would just say no, save it for when you are older. I might dab make up and nail varnish on them but I certainly wouldn't go out and buy something specially for them.
