Help needed with newborn and Close Caboo sling

I have a wriggly, 11lbish 4 week old DS who I'd really like to get used to a sling. We have a Close Caboo Lite and despite watching numerous videos I just can't get it right. I am overseas and we have no sling libraries and babywearing consultants are pricey so trying mumsnet first!

  • When I lift the baby in, he ends up too high up - top of his head level with my mouth not under my chin, but I can't work out how to lower him without making the whole thing too loose. I'm 5ft2 with a short torso - could this be part of the issue? The crossover bit at the back also seems to ride up when I put him in and ends up on my upper back.
  • Should the baby's head be covered by the fabric strap even when awake? I can see how this could work when he's sleeping but so far he's been awake/woken up each time I've tried and wants to throw his head backwards, not tuck it under a strap... maybe this is a positioning issue too?

I really want to persevere as it actually feels quite comfy and supportive, it's just impractical as I have to support his neck with my hands so I'm obviously going wrong somewhere. We also have an ergo 360 which we haven't tried yet but I thought the caboo would be cosier while he was tiny...

I’m definitely not an expert but have you done a good pelvis tilt where you sort of scoop under their bum? You can get videos on YouTube demonstrating it. That used to get mine in a bit lower.

Though saying that we never got a lot of use out of the caboo either though I loved it. Mainly used a ring sling or a buckled carrier with insert. I’m 5ft 3 with a long baby and it’s only now with a hip carry in a ring sling or my Tula without an insert that she’s not constantly in my face 😂

Also is it going on tight enough? I read somewhere that it needs to fit like a t shirt with no more than 10cm space between the front cross and you. I’ve also used a rolled up muslin tucked into the top of the over panel bit to give more neck support as mine didn’t like the strap over her head either.

Thanks Shixty. I will rewatch the videos looking for the pelvic tilt! And I think you're right it probably isn't tight enough, I think I've overestimated what 10cm looks like.

The muslin sounds like a good idea, can't see him wanting to have his head tucked away if he's awake!
