Child sick during notice period

Hi all,

At the end of December I've handed in my notice (primary school teacher) and am now working my 4 weeks notice period. My wee boy is very unwell at the moment - vomiting, not drinking, crying, hasn't slept all day...
there is absolutely no one to look after him tomorrow so I'll have to phone in and ask for a day of Dependent's leave but I feel so guilty about this. Is there anyone else who has been in this situation?

Thanks!

Don’t even think twice- your little boy needs you!

I bet when looking back on this in a few months/years it won’t seem like a big deal and you’ll be glad to have chosen to be home looking after him.

Also that’s why you get dependents leave, your rights still stand even if you’re working your notice.
