Baby loves looking at the TV - an equivalent?

My baby has been obsessed with looking at the TV. He’s nearly 4 months old. It’s not necessary about what’s on because he looks at it even when I’m watching the news so I’m assuming it’s because of the lights and colours?

Is there something I can buy for him that’s equivalent that he’d enjoy? Not a night light as I have one of these but I don’t think they are very good or very bright and it’s only one colour at a time.

Thank you!

One of those rainbow crystals you hang in a window?

MrsLettuce · 09/01/2019 15:19

I'd always make sure they couldn't see the TV from where they were sitting at that age TBH. They used to adore watching the washing machine, we also had a great playmat thing with lights and sounds that was a godsend too

This is the one we had www.amazon.co.uk/Fisher-Price-K4562-Melodies-Lights-Deluxe/dp/B000FFL58Q?tag=mumsnetforum-21 I'm quite surprised they're still making it all these years later! Shock at the price though, ours was a gift

He can’t watch the washing machine unfortunately, it’s fitted under the stairs along with the dishwasher so there’s no room for him to sit in front of it Sad

I don’t have the TV on much at my house but it’s when I visit my parents that’s it’s always that he’lol turn his head towards it and even when he’s on the floor he’ll turn his head upwards towards it too!! It’s the only thing he likes to watch for a long time if I let him!

I have to keep my TV off because DD is like this! She loves all things animationic with sounds and lights. Her favourite toy at the moment is the vtech turn and learn cube.

ReaganSomerset · 09/01/2019 15:50

She also likes pianos with light up keys and a vtech baby walker with detachable front. I think parking them in front of a TV substitute is probably as harmful as an actual TV, to be honest.

Dts used to love the baby Einstein dvds. Gave me time to feed one while the other waited looking at that instead of screaming the place down.

I bought a cheap battery operated glitter lamp for DS, he loves staring at it. It's also helpful to distract him when he gets fidgety before bedtime Grin

What about one of those projectors that makes light patterns on the ceiling?
