Taking a newborn swimming

I'm hoping to start taking my 5 week old swimming soon. Any tips to make it a enjoyable time? Also any recommendations for a good swimming nappy?

I think a lot of classes suggest 10 weeks old minimum. We started a bit later than that but found the most important thing was making sure LO was warm after the session. We found baby towels not quite big enough so used adult ones and that worked much better! Might also be worth getting a bottle to expedite feeding as soon as they are dressed.

Feel like a terrible Mum, I didn't take my daughter until she was over three months. Selfishly couldn't have faced it myself until then! When we did take the plunge she loved it though.

@speakout sorry I think you may have misread my post. I didn't say it was more of a bonding experience, simply I found it a great bonding experience and would recommend it.

The op obviously wants people's opinions and experiences, so I gave her mine as we go regularly and my DS loves it, luckily he has never contracted nurovirus, staph infections, fungal infections or such the like, nor has anyone we know.

Thanks for the tips everyone, I shall look into a neoprene nappy👍🏻

To those saying it's dangerous whilst they are so young and you need to wait for their jabs, you don't. Both my midwife and health visitor thought it was a nice way for me to get out of the house with my LO and potentially meet other parents.

You are right you don't need to wait for jabs. Ourvissye was that the local toddler pool was still.too cold for DS so we swopped to Waterbabies at 4 months
DS is still going now at nearly 4.
