Internet best friends?

My daughter is nearly 15, and she has been part of a ‘fandom’ for nearly a year now. I’m fine with this, as it has really boosted her confidence. If you don’t already know, a fandom is a group of people who talk about a certain thing, in this instance a video game. Over the year she has been very open with me, telling me about her friends she is making. They know her name, she knows there’s but they don’t know anything stupid that could harm her other than her name and interests. They talk all the time, and FaceTime too which makes me feel better about it as, I can see them and know they are who they say they are. They seem like lovely girls.they also come from all other the world, she is learning language, and facts about other countries with is lovely. I know many of you will disagree with this, but I see it as a modern day pen pal, and she is very good with internet safety, so as long as I keep an eye on it she’ll be fine. Has anyone else experienced kids with internet best friends?
