Starting school/nursery and new baby

Hi
Has anyone had a new baby at the same time (not literally😉) as the older child/children start school or nursery for the first time? What was your experience, good or bad? Just wondering if it would negatively affect the start of school/nursery which of course you want to be really positive. Thanks

Not exactly at the same time, but my older one started school several months before I had my 2nd. It was perfectly fine. Being on maternity leave meant I could be home a lot more to support her and help with homework and could do all the school runs (after the initial few weeks when life settled down, my dh did them before this when he was on paternity leave).

I think it actually has really helped that it meant she had her own time and her own friends away from just doing everything with her baby brother. Honestly, she gets a bit fed up being home with us all the time, so her starting school when he came along meant she had a bit of independence and fun time away from home that I couldn't easily give her. It's also meant I have enough time and energy for both of them and I'm not constantly pulled in two directions, which makes for a happier home life all around.
