How long did it take to sleep train your toddler?

Hi,

I’ve also posted this in sleep and got some advice but no actual numbers! I’m trying to train my almost 3 year old to sleep in his own bed after sleeping with us since the summer and being a terrible sleeper before then. We are getting him to sleep in his own room then returning him to bed each time he wakes up. So far we have done 5 nights (started Boxing Day) and he is getting up 5/6 times a night every night. He goes back to sleep fairly easily but I’m struggling with the increased wake ups. If you have done this can you let me know how long it took please?

Thanks in advance

Anyone? We are on day 8 now and he is still waking up multiple times a night. We put him back to bed each time. This feels worse than having a newborn!

No advice as we sleep trained much younger but I expect if you continue to be persistent it will pay off! Keep doing what you are doing Grin

You just have to keep going, the only other option is for him to keep sleeping with you but then you could be going through this with a much older child. Stay strong.

Thanks both. I know you’re right it’s just so tiring for all of us. I was desperate to stop co sleeping so I will persevere. I’m wondering if a talk with the health visitor or a sleep consultant would help. Getting a bit desperate now...

Although my first son was a lot younger when we sleep trained (10 months) we used a Sleep Consultant for guidance and she was amazing!!!!!!

Prior to training under her instructions I had baby who NEVER napped and woke at least 4 times a night and could be awake for hours at a time. He would only ever be breast fed back to sleep too.

After her help he slept through the night, 7-6, he could self settle without a breast feed and he had two set naps a day, each one 1.5 hours long. It took about 7-10 days to achieve this.

If you’re interested in using one then PM me and I can pass on her details.

Ooh Queen I'll PM you for those details if you don't mind, DS is 17 months and still an awful sleeper/napper!

No problem, I have replied Smile
