I think it may just see me off! 😭😫any tips?? Half an hour / hour fight for a 20min nap...hourly night wakings..just what the actual Shock she was self settling like a champ before this! Naively thought we may have missed it as she’s 17 weeks...oh how I was wrong!

Not a whole lot of advice except that it does end, eventually - DD had every nap from 3.5 to 5 months in her sling, outside, in mid-winter, so you have my sympathies!

Make sure she's not getting wound up/overtired - will she have a longer nap in the pram for example?

Rosebud1302 · 31/12/2018 13:10

You have my utter sympathy. We are going through the same. Honestly the naps are enough to finish me off!! Like you said an hour of fighting to get a half an hour nap 😩

The best advice I can give you is to not be like me and don't be stubborn about baby self settling in crib. If you breastfeed, feed to sleep and let baby sleep on you. Use the car. Pram. Sling. Rocking. Anything that works. I promise you I wish I had taken my own advice because I was on the floor in tears so many times desperately trying to get baby to settle. It just is not worth it. Don't worry about bad habits. They can be broken. Save yourself and baby the pain and frustration and just get them to sleep however possible to get through this period. It will end stay strong!!

Thank you! Yea I’ve just taken her out in the pram which gets her down easier but BAM 30 mins and she’s up. It’s wierd I timed it and it’s pretty much 30min on the dot every time!

Yea we’re bouncing around the room with her and shhhh patting which usually is what works after w feed. My arms killing me tho haha!

Yes the 30 mins nap is very normal at this age. It is because 30-45 mins is the average length of a single sleep cycle. And at this point most babies don't have the ability to put themselves back to sleep again when they come out of that sleep cycle. It's a killer. But hopefully gets better as they get older!

tiredmoma · 01/01/2019 00:32

Sorry too jump on but at what point for they nap longer than 30mins? I know every baby is different but 30mins is pants you get hardly anything done!!!

Rosebud1302 · 01/01/2019 06:18

It really varies. Some babies are perfectly happy with short naps unfortunately so it can go for a while! From what I've read though it's mainly a developmental thing once they learn to connect sleep cycles which tends to get better around 5/6 months old ish. They are rubbish aren't they. My DS is 4.5 months and primarily does 30 min naps although in the last couple of weeks he has thrown some longer ones in so there is hope!

Eeeeek2 · 01/01/2019 08:27

My ds didn't nap for more than 30 minutes until after 1 sorry not sure you wanted to hear that

tiredmoma · 01/01/2019 09:46

I think my dd will be like that shes had 30 min naps for a while altho the odd time they will go for longer but she sleeps well at night so i guess i really cant complain!!

I am at this very stage too, it see.s impossible to do anything at all! Feed to sleep and as soon as I move... Boom she's awake! It's a difficult time!
