Hipp Organic Pre-Made Formula problems - What is the safest way to make formula?

I’ve noticed that when I’m out and about, for ease I give my DS Hipp Organic Pre-Made formula, however he seems to have bad gas pains at night and he wakes up whinging and crying half asleep. He’s 3 months so he’s outgrown majority of his gas pains and his farts at night don’t seem to bother him except for days I give him the pre-made stuff. I don’t know whether that’s a coincidence though.

I thought the pre-made stuff was the safest option?

As soon as I cuddle him and pick him up, he stops whinging and falls back to sleep instantly.

What is the safest way to make formula when I am out with him for a couple of hours?

I use the Tommee Tippee at home. Times like this i get so upset that I got sepsis and was unable to breastfeed Sad

For a couple of hours you could make up a bottle with hot water and formula powder, flash cool and then store in a good quality cooler to keep it cold. Or, if you're going somewhere where you know you can get hot water, you could take powder dispensers and make up a bottle when you're out. Although it'll take a while to cool down. Or you could take a flask of hot water with you, if you won't be able to get hot water when out.

Although, I don't know what the issue is with the pre made stuff? It's safe and easy to use, and it's very unlikely that your baby's unsettled nights are related to it. 3 month d babies are just sometimes unsettled at night,

I had an awful time with my DD and milk, she was on aptamil but when they changed the formula she came out in hives all over her body and the rash flared up when we gave her the premade stuff even more than giving the powder, but we never got any answers why and I inspected the premade and the powder and couldn’t see any massive difference in ingredients.. anyway she had a reaction to both liquid and powder, so we tried cow and gate, same out come, and eventually settled on hipp. She’s fantastic on it but the premade bottles are not available in the stores near us. I have a tommee tippee flask and honestly it keeps water so hot! Even after 10 hours it’s hot (maybe not hot enough for a bottle but I am just explaining it lasts a long time) it also comes with like a big plastic tumbler that attaches on to it, so you can either make a bottle with it, or use the water in the tumbler to warm a bottle. I also carry a bottle of cold water so if I make a fresh bottle I use cold water in the tumbler to cool it down to right temp. It was about £10 from boots I’ll see if I can get you a link.
Other than that you’ve got the tommee tippee insulated bottle holders which you can put a hot bottle in and that may stay hot enough for 2-3hours..
bear in mind neither of these methods ensure the water is at the right temp to make your bottles for your baby, so depends how strict you want to be with following the guidelines (boiling kettle, wait 30min, make bottle, then cool to temp for baby) my DD is 7 months now so I’m not as worried as I was at 2 months when I started to do this, but I’ve used both methods and she’s been fine. We are weaning now and this flask is good for making and warming up food on the go also!

And you’re not alone with not being able to breastfeed 😊 I desperately wanted to feed my DD, I wanted that bond the midwives all talked about, I wanted to give my daughter the very best that they all said that BF was the best for my daughter and I wanted to give that to her as her mother. For whatever reason, my milk never came in, we spent a week in hospital cup feeding her waiting for my milk to come, hand expressed tried a pump, skin to skin nothing worked and eventually I had to give in and give her formula so we could go home. I still tried for another 2 months to encourage my milk supply.. but nothing. I know it’s hard, when she had that reaction and all the messing about changing milks, I thought if I could BF none of this would have happened. But She is happy and fed and I’m sure your baby is the same, try not to beat yourself up about it 😊 xx

Can I just say that you don't need to wait 30 minutes after boiling the kettle! The instructions will say to wait no more than 30 minutes after boiling the kettle. So you can make up the formula a few minutes after the kettle has boiled.

I used to take a flask of hot water and powder formula in those dispenser pots and about 40 minutes to an hour before a feed was due I would make the bottle up so it had time to cool before baby needed it. Once made up with hot water you have 2 hours to use it.
