Night terrors or something else?

My 16 month old has never been a great sleeper and regularly wakes for milk but recently has been waking to be sick (not always but sometimes) so we have a specialist appt next week. He’s always been on the highest dose of ranitidine.

Tonight though he wakened up once about 8pm for no apparent reason but was quite writhey when I tried to comfort him. He quickly nodded off when out in cot. He then woke at 9.40 absolutely screaming like I have never heard before. I took him into my room as I was so worried and after a few minutes of absolute piercing screams, eyes closed, he got a little smile on his face and contented went back over. Is this a night terror or is he too young? My oldest had them but nothing like this bad and not so young.

I’m an incredibly anxious parent and worried it is something more sinister as I caught him eating a gel crayon earlier and am worried he is poisoned. I can’t find any info online on gel crayons except that they are advised for thre year olds and adult supervision is recommended.

Apologies for long post but wanted to give whole picture and am really worried. He is now sound asleep.

Thanks so much for any assurance, advice on terrors or on toxins
